Volunteer and Grant Opportunities

Working for a safer world

Disasters don’t just affect businesses, they affect communities. The more we share our incident experiences, lessons learned, and best practices, the more we all gain. When people anywhere are well prepared to respond to a disaster, it helps prevent economic, social and psychological devastation that can have a ripple effect all over the world.

We encourage all those involved in the industry of risk and preparedness to contribute their knowledge and experience to help the larger world get prepared. We've listed some popular volunteer organizations where you can get involved with disaster preparedness and relie belowf. If you are aware of a great opportunities that we don't have listed, please contact us.

In addition, Lootok's network of colleagues and partners offer annual grants to non-profit businesses to provide Business Continuity, Risk Management or related services to these institutions for free. If you are from a not-for-profit organization and are seeking consulting services in this area to help your organization get prepared, please contact Iris Chung to find out more about submitting a grant proposal:

Volunteer agencies:

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) - "The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community."

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) - "National VOAD (NVOAD)  coordinates planning efforts by many voluntary organizations responding to disaster. NVOAD member organizations  provide more effective service and less duplication during times of disaster by getting together before disasters strike. When a disaster occurs, NVOAD or an affiliated state VOAD encourages members and other voluntary agencies to convene on site. This cooperative effort has proven to be the most effective way for a wide variety of volunteers and organizations to work together during a crisis. Each state has its own VOAD - search Google to find yours."

All Hands Volunteers - "All Hands Volunteers is a US-based, 501(c)3 non-profit  organization, that provides hands-on assistance to survivors of natural  disasters around the world, with maximum impact and minimum bureaucracy.  By supporting volunteers with housing, meals, tools, and organized work  at no charge we are able to provide free and effective response  services to communities in need. We traditionally help in the response phase, not during the search and rescue phase. This means that we try to come in quickly after a natural disaster hits, but after the search and rescue operations, and fill in gaps left by governmental and non-governmental agencies in clean-up, community recovery and reconstruction projects. We also have the ability to launch projects in areas of great need without the necessity of a major disaster as the triggering event."

American Red Cross - "Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering."
