Interview Transcript - Craig Triscari on the 2011 London Riots from an Incident Management perspective
For an incident in Britain, there are a few things that I think they needed to understand – first was, what were the initial sparks about?
In this case, there was a peaceful protest that was occurring and there was anger over the fact that police officers has shot unarmed minority individual and there was a group of individuals that got together to protest that particular action. Now you have to define those views and violence and figure out why they actually did what they did. One due is that it was a sense less criminality by people who had no actual complaint against anyone. They were just individual thugs that took advantage of particular situation in this case – this peaceful protest against police officers and used that in order to meet their own ends. The other view is that the riots are based on the deep dissatisfaction for country’s current situation in Britain. The situation might be environment or social programs and cuts that the country is going through now. But again, understanding and defining what the problem is, is extremely critical into determining how you will resolve those issues.
